Day Camp Curriculum

The Big Holiday Mix-up is a day camp curriculum that teaches the gospel story through five familiar celebrations—Birthday, Valentine’s Day, Christmas, Easter, and New Year’s—intentionally celebrated out of season and out of order during a summer camp week, decorated with holiday specific decorations each day.

Each of these holidays is normally tied to a specific time of year and a specific kind of celebration. In this curriculum, those expectations are intentionally disrupted. Holidays appear where they don’t belong, overlap in unexpected ways, and feel slightly “off.” This playful confusion helps children grasp a deeper truth: the world God created good became mixed up, and God’s rescue plan unfolded over time to set things right.

The humor and chaos of misplaced holidays are reinforced through daily skits, which visually and emotionally reflect the confusion sin brings into the world. The lessons that follow ground those moments in Scripture, helping campers understand how each “holiday” fits into God’s bigger story. By the end of the week, children will see that while sin caused the greatest mix-up of all, God had a plan from the very beginning—one that leads from creation to redemption to new life.

The Big Holiday Mix-up invites kids to laugh, question, and engage, while steadily guiding them through the gospel in a way that is memorable, meaningful, and Biblically centered.
