The Backstory
Our family loves sharing the good news of Jesus within our neighborhood. This is especially true at Christmas and Easter, when we’ve tried many fun and creative ways to engage our neighbors with the meaning of these special seasons.
A few years back, as we were asking the Lord to give us a creative way of sharing the Gospel that Easter season, “The Wordless Book” from our childhood came to mind. The Wordless book was a book with colored pages, no words, which parents or Sunday school teachers used to teach the Gospel to children, with each color telling a part of the salvation story.
An idea formed; our family already loves making and sharing buns and bread, and people love receiving fresh bread, so could we color bread to tell a story?
We stepped out on a limb, making 7 batches of dough, and our first draft of a simple one-page story telling the good news, using the seven (“Easter” looking) colors we selected. We prayerfully gave our “loaves and fishes”, so to speak. School teachers and neighbors loved the bread and some even shared that they had read the story with their family. It was so fun and so well received that this has become a yearly tradition, with us making more and more loaves to share (especially with those whom have expectation of receiving “their” yearly loaf of Good News Bread).
This year we wanted to make booklets for our neighbors in hopes some may keep it and ponder the message past just the Easter season.
Our family has experienced so much joy in sharing the Gospel, and Good News Bread is simply a way to express our love for our friends and neighbours.
And so, our family wanted to share this idea with you in the chance it might inspire or encourage you in the work God has for you in your neighborhood.
